Lebanese scholar Fathi Yakan died

Islamic Action Front leader Fathi Yakan died after he was hospitalized in serious condition on Friday night, Lebanese media reported.

Islamic Action Front leader Fathi Yakan, an influenced cleric, died after he was hospitalized in serious condition on Friday night, Lebanese media reported.

Islamic Action Front , who denied the reports earlier, confirmed on Saturday that its leader Yakan had died, Naharnet news agency said.

Voice of Lebanon radio said earlier that Yakan died at Hotel Dieu Hospital where he was hospitalized the night before.

Sheikh Fathi Yakan, an Islamic cleric, was born in 1933 in Tripoli. He held a seat in the parliament of Lebanon in 1992.

He became involved in Islamic work in Lebanon in the mid 1950s and was a pioneer in the establishment of the Islamic Movement.

Yakan's body will be moved to Tripoli on Sunday morning. The time and place of the funeral will be announced at a later time, the statement added.
